About this event
The fourth Product Camp, and the first at Vagamon.
We leave Coimbatore early on Saturday morning and are back by Sunday evening. Travel is by carpool, worked out between whoever is coming once we know who that is.
What it costs
2,750 rupees a person. That covers the stay and the food: evening tea and snacks on Saturday, dinner that night, and breakfast on Sunday.
It runs if enough people come
The venue needs a minimum number before it will hold the site for us, so this one is conditional in a way an evening talk is not. Register first. We will tell you either way as soon as we know, rather than leaving you to work it out from silence.
What a Product Camp is
A camp is not a talk with a longer runtime. It is the one format here that asks people to travel, arrive with a bag and stay the night, and almost everything that makes it worth doing follows from that.
The value is in the hours an ordinary event does not have. A session ends when the room has to be handed back, so the conversation that was just getting interesting stops mid-sentence and everybody goes to find their vehicle. A camp removes the reason to stop. The sessions are real and they are scheduled, but the part people describe afterwards is usually what happened long after the schedule ran out, among whoever was still awake and had stopped performing expertise at each other.
It is deliberately informal. Camping, shared food, no lanyards, and no separation between the person who spoke and the people who listened. Somebody fifteen years into shipping products and somebody two months into their first product role end up in the same circle, which is a thing a conference seating plan is quite effective at preventing.
If you are deciding whether to come: expect to be outdoors, expect to sleep badly, and expect the conversation you remember to happen at an hour you would not have chosen.
